I would not use them to protect a pda or cell phone when out canoeing. However, they are fairly water resistant, great for putting a wet bathing suit into or to keep your packed clothing dry in a drizzle.They have a stiff flat metal piece across the top, you fold the top over a few times and click the buckle to fasten. The green one is large enough for a pair of large size (mens 11) adult shoes. The orange one will fit a mens t shirt, a pair of shorts and some socks with a little stuffing. The blue one is good for toiletries. These are ALMOST dry sacks. 1st trip out everything inside was moist - not wringing wet, but moist - nothing more enticing than a handful of soggy wet tissues. DO NOT USE to keep electronics dry! Best use is after the fact to store wet shoes or clothes for the trip home. Of course a plastic grocery bag does the same job and costs less.
